Baby #2 - {Miller's Birth Story}

The weekend after Valentines Day, Jason had a fire under him to get everything ready for the baby. He put the new crib together, I washed Jack's old baby clothes and some of the new ones we had received, we bought a crib mattress, and put the carseat base in the van - just lots of little things that hadn't been done yet. All three of us were still fighting off wicked colds, so I had been coughing like crazy all weekend.

Sunday February 17th, Cara hosted a luncheon for me to celebrate Baby Brother (full post with pictures to follow!), and I kept telling everyone that now that we had done all those last minute things, the baby could come whenever!

That night, I woke up at 2:35am to go to the bathroom... typical. When I got back in bed, Jason asked me if I was having contractions, but I wasn't. Then like 5 minutes later, I had 3-4 contractions within a 10 minute period! And I'm laying there thinking, surely these aren't REAL ones, and I start to feel like I'm peeing... but I just went! Surely it's not my water breaking! So I got out of bed and headed towards the bathroom and- oh yeah, that is TOTALLY my water breaking!! I woke Jason up at 2:50am and we got ready (packing our hospital bag was one of the things on the list that we HADN'T done yet... whoops!), woke Jack up and headed to the hospital at 3:35am.

When we got to the hospital they confirmed that my water did break (and it kept coming for like 2+ hours!), and they put us in the Fuchsia Room. The absolute worst part about early labor for me is "getting checked". My nurse, Wendy, was very sweet and did the best she could, but it was completely miserable!! She said I was a 3-4 and 80% effaced when she checked. We called our parents, Sam and Vanessa, Hunter and Elizabeth, and I texted a couple friends to let them know that I was REALLY in labor!!
this is my "I love pain meds" face!

I got an epidural at 5:40am and then Mom, Patricia, Sam and Vanessa came and hung out for a while. Up until then, Jack had been happily sitting in his stroller watching Jake on Jason's iPad (such a sweet boy!), but he was sure happy to see some friendly faces! I got checked again at 6:30am (PTL for the epidural - I didn't feel a thing!) and was a 5, then at 7am Sam and V took Jack to our house to let him take a nap (he'd been up since 3am at this point!). After they left, from 7:30-8:30 we tried to rest but didn't actually sleep. At 8:30am Vounett checked me and I was 7cm dilated and 90% effaced. I got to turn on my side for a bit which was a good change for me, since I had been stuck on my back for HOURS at that point.

We hung out and talked for a bit with my Mom, Patricia, and Jess, then I got checked at 10:30am and had only gone to an 8 and 90% after 2 hours, so to move things along I got some pitocin at 10:45am. Within 5-10 minutes my contractions started to look like mountain peaks, when they had been a little irregular. Vounett checked me again around 11:10ish and and called Dr. Brown to let him know I was "complete" and ready to push (Oh yeah, by the way - MY doctor was out of town!! AHHH!!!). By the time everything was ready and it was time to push, I only had to push through 3 contractions!!

On February 18th at 11:53am Miller James Lawhorn was born!
He was 6lbs 8oz and 19.75in long!

I can't believe he came 23 days early - what an amazing blessing!!

Baby #2 - {Thoughts In the Last Month}

This pregnancy has FLOWN by!! And then again, I feel like I've been pregnant forever (isn't that true for so many things?). We found out we were expecting a new family member on the morning we left for our Disney vacation, just 2 weeks after Jack turned 1, and a week after Jack's 1st birthday party.

It wasn't long before we found out that we would be meeting another precious boy come March! 3/13/13 sounded so far away back then! Now we are less than a month away from Little Brother's due date... And we are SO READY!

I have been having Braxton Hicks contractions pretty regularly for a month or two, but no other major issues/labor signs UNTIL this past weekend. On Saturday, we were driving around town, about 15 minutes from home, and my back started KILLING ME!! No matter how I tried to wiggle and squirm, I couldn't get comfortable - it was frustrating! So when we got home, I laid down - I could either stand or lay down, I couldn't sit in a regular seated position comfortably, and it lasted about 30 minutes. So that was Saturday.

Then on Sunday, I had what felt like period cramps, which is what it felt like when I had my first contraction with Jack - WHAT?! I wasn't even 36 weeks yet!! This lasted about 6-7 minutes then turned into the hideous back pain for a while, so I had to go lay down again. Every day since then I have had one or the other (or both), but nothing has been measurable/timeable, so we're not really concerned that he's on his way yet.

I go this Monday for my 36 week appointment and will get "checked", which is officially the worst part of the last month appointments. I will be interested to see if I have progressed at all, but other than that I would love to avoid it completely. Amen.

My doctor is out all next week, so Little Brother can either come right now or in two weeks. :) Jason and I were talking and we both can't imagine him coming in February - we feel like he is supposed to be a March baby. But of course, we will be thrilled if he comes today! Anyway, just wanted to get some of these ramblings out in a post before my pregnant mommy brain forgets it all!!

Baby #2: 31 Weeks Pregnant

This is the part where I totally beat myself up for not keeping up with weekly pregnancy updates, but I'm going to give myself some grace here and just move on!!

This week I am 31 weeks pregnant with Little Brother!!
Looooovely wet-hair-in-a-bun picture for ya. If I waited until things were perfect, it would never happen... kinda like it hasn't happened for the last 20 weeks...

*Little Brother is about 16in long, weighing between 3-4 pounds!
*I have gained 17lbs so far, which is 1lb+ more than where I was with Jack at 31 weeks
*Overall I'm feeling good! No major ailments to speak of, just tired and sore, especially in the late evening and early morning.
*I'm doing my best to take a little nap in the afternoon when Jack is napping, so that I'm not a total monster by the time Jason gets home. :)
*We're working on getting the Big Boy Room ready for Jack to move into, then later on, Little Brother will join him! BROTHERS!!

Can't wait!!!! :)

Sweetest Video of All Time (& Gender Reveal!)

Jack had been saying "I seeeeee you" and I wanted to get it on video. Little did I know that he would give me so much more than that! I literally tear up every time I watch this - I know it may be the pregancy hormones, but seeing this helps me know that Jack is going to be the best big brother.

And.... surprise!! If you don't already know, you will get to find out the gender of Baby Lawhorn #2 in this video!! We are so thrilled!!

Excuse me, I have to go find my tissues.

Baby #2 - {19 weeks}

No full update because I'm super late in posting this, but here was a picture I took (yes, in the bathroom...) on the day I hit 19 weeks! I feel like I FINALLY just started to pop out! People are noticing more, rather than saying "Are you SURE you're pregnant?"

This was the day we found out the gender of Baby #2!!

Reveal post to follow!!

Baby #2 - {18 weeks}

How far along?: 18w {18 weeks w/Jack}
How big is baby?: The size of a sweet potato.
Weight gain/loss?: About +3 lbs? I truly feel like I have POPPED in the last 2 days.
Stretch marks?: No new ones.
Maternity clothes?: Not yet, just using a rubber band to make my jeans bigger.
Sleep?: Sleeping pretty well even w/a 15 mo. old!
Food cravings?: Loving hot tea in the mornings. And the afternoons.
Gender?: We will hopefully find out in a week!!! Right now, Jason and I both feel like the baby is a boy, a little brother for Jack-Jack! But of course, I could be totally surprised with ribbons and bows. :)
Movement?: Yes! Anytime I'm settled down, I can feel the little thumps! So fun!!
Belly button?: Definitely have a 2nd baby belly button!
What do you miss?: As I said last week, I've been feeling a little yucky the past week or so - headaches, stomach issues... I don't know if it's completely pregnancy related or not, but I do miss feeling good.
What are you looking forward to this week?: Feeling more movement, and hopefully finding out the gender!

Too cute not to share. This is a perfect example of most days - puppy boy and baby boy hanging out at my feet.

Weight gain/loss?: About +2-3 lbs?
Stretch marks?: No new ones.
Maternity clothes?: Not yet, just using a rubber band to make my jeans bigger.
Sleep?: Sleeping pretty well even w/a 15 mo. old!
Food cravings?: Mostly healthier foods, so that's good.
Gender?: We will hopefully find out in 2 weeks!!! Right now, Jason and I both feel like the baby is a boy, a little brother for Jack-Jack! But of course, I could be totally surprised with ribbons and bows. :)
Movement?: I'm writing this a little late, but I felt movement for the first time today on Friday, Oct. 5th! Two little kicks from baby on our way to Taco Mamacita. Yay!!
Belly button?: Ewww... I try not to look at it. ;) It was close to being normal again, but not so much anymore!
What do you miss?: I've been feeling a little yucky the past week or so - headaches, stomach issues... I don't know if it's completely pregnancy related or not, but I do miss feeling good. (Although one of my sweet pregnant friends has been having the most horrendous migraines every day for weeks now, so I AM feeling blessed in many respects. Please say a quick prayer for her that they can help her manage the pain.)
What are you looking forward to this week?: I'm looking forward to feeling more movement!
