Indoor Herb Garden: Progress

Remember the indoor herb garden I planted in an egg crate?

And here's the progress so far!

The first to sprout was the oregano (within a week or so), then the cilantro (whose seed is coriander, so two herbs for the price of one - learn something new everyday!), then rosemary, and finally the little bits of basil have pushed through.

I love seeing the little growth every time I'm doing dishes. It makes me happy. :)

Now, if it will all just live long enough for me to actually USE it in my cooking.

Jack Photo Post

Please enjoy a shameless photo post of my favorite subject.

Gotta love a face like this.

Please check out the V in the middle of his forehead. He has had that since day 1!! I love it.

And if you didn't see it in the last one, here's the V again.

Look at my "toofer", Mommy!

Blue Bathroom: Last Before

We are just days away from the full demo of our master bathroom. I thought I would give it its final Before photos, in all its glory. :)

So what's staying?

The toilet. It's a good, tall toilet that was replaced right before we moved in.

And what's going?
Everything else.

Sink, mirror, lights, floors, shower, and ALL THAT BLUE TILE!

And of course, Jason already started "deconstruction" on this space about this time last year when we thought we would re-do both bathrooms before little man arrived. And, well... we didn't.
The shower leaks, so we already weren't using it - just to clarify.

But that's okay, because now Jack can be the project manager.

Weekend Getaway

We decided it was time for Jason and I to go on a quick getaway and leave Jack with my mom for one night. It was tough leaving him, but I knew he would be totally fine with her - bonus: he was AMAZING and slept all night while we were gone!! :)

The reason I planned the trip was for us to go to the Blue Willow Inn for dinner! Jason's been before, and I've heard nothing but wonderful things about it, so Sunday evening we made our way over there.

Mmmm... yummy southern home cookin'!
Dinner was great (but quick)! Then it was back to the beautiful bed & breakfast where we were staying for the night. We stayed at the Ashford Manor in the Safari Room! It was so cool and had this giant map on the wall:

And the bathroom was really neat - it looked like an outhouse! In the most... cool way that an outhouse can look.

The beautiful Ashford Manor.

We tried to take a picture in front of the house, and one time we were too dark and the next time the house was too light!

And finally, a picture with the sawtooth shark... yikes!

We had such a great time. It was so nice to have a quick getaway, but we missed the little guy! It was so great to have him back in our arms on Monday. :)

Flashback - Living Room 3 Years Ago

I was looking through some old pictures on Facebook and saw this one from the night Jason and I got engaged! It was so awesome to spend that evening with our sweet friends to celebrate such a special event!!

So what was totally great was how ridiculous the living room looked then. :)
Old couch, old light fixture, and fold-out camp chairs? Check!

This is basically the same view, you can see the door (that we don't use,
since there's one right on the other side) behind the right bookshelf.
Exersaucer, activity mat, and baby photos? Check!

And here's some trivia for you - Jason proposed in this very living room! Another reason that makes the first picture so sweet; it was exactly like this when he asked me to be his wife!

Happy "Valen-times" Day

It's Valen-times Day!!

What?

Oh, hi Mommy! :)

He was making this silly scrunchy nose face and sniffing in and out ALL day! It was hilarious and I wondered if he was mad about something until he would break out a huge grin afterwards!

Me and my sweet Valentine.
This time last year I was at the halfway point

I have to say that while it was sweet,
it is WAY better to have you out here than in there. :)

Jack Woke Up With a TOOTH!!

All my mommy friends have told me...

that one day your baby will just wake up...

and all of a sudden have a tooth...

And they were right!!!

He was holding on to my hand yesterday morning, and he started to chew on my finger and I was like "OW! What was that??" and looked to find this little tooth bud!

My friend Katie told me just a few weeks ago to enjoy the sweet little "gummy grin", because once they have teeth it'll never look the same. So I really have been paying attention to his sweet smile and reveling in the "baby days".

I'm so excited though! Our little man is growing up!!

Jack & Leighton

First they were friends inside our tummies.
5/8/11 - Jack was born less than 2 months later, Leighton was born 4 months later

Then Jack came along!
7/2/11 - Jack was 1 day old, and Leighton was 2.5 months from being with us!

Then little Leighton was born and Jack looked like a giant!
9/25/11 - Leighton was 6 days old and Jack was almost 3 months!

And now they are both big 'ol sweetie pies and going on dates.
1/12/12 - Leighton was about to be 4 months old and Jack was 6.5 months!

Supervised, of course.

Indoor Herb Garden

I had seen this pin on Pinterest about an egg crate herb garden, and knew I could do that!

Also, after my somewhat FAILED garden attempt two summers ago, I thought I would try to hone my green thumb by testing it out on this indoor (read: smaller and therefore hopefully easier) herb garden.

I followed the instructions on the Super Healthy Kids website but used my smaller 6 egg cardboard carton instead of a 12 egg foam container.
I planted basil, cilantro, rosemary, and oregano!
I can't wait to use these in some of our homemade dinners!!

Now, I won't mark this off my February goals list just yet...
I'll wait until I actually see some herbs growing! :)

Hopefully my brown thumb doesn't ruin this nearly fool-proof garden... :)
