Want to know more about Baby Lawhorn?
Check out the Our Baby page!

How far along?: 32w1d - only 8 weeks to go!!
How big is baby?: the size of a squash, around 15-17in and 3-4 lbs.
Weight gain/loss?: +16-17 lbs
Stretch marks?: Nope.
Maternity clothes?: Every day, baby.
Sleep?: I'm still having a hard time getting comfortable and falling asleep, and now I'm waking up several times a night. A glimpse of what's to come, I've heard. :)
Food cravings?: Still Panera IC Mochas or McDonald's Frappe Mochas. Yum-O!
Gender?: Sweet baby BOY!
Movement?: He's still just as squirmy as ever! I don't even count kicks or anything because I can't go 20 minutes without feeling him move!!
Belly button?: Hello world. I'm Sarah's belly button. Nice to meet you.
What do you miss?: There is NOTHING that I miss that could possibly compare to the excitement of having our little guy.
What are you looking forward to this week?: "Baby Overload Week" has begun!!! We had our FIRST baby shower last Saturday (post to follow!), childbirth class Tuesday and Thursday night, baby shower at work on Thursday, doctor's appointment Friday, and baby shower at my parents church this Saturday!! We are so excited about this week because it means we are one week closer to meeting Baby Lawhorn!

No Power? No Problem!

EDITED TO ADD: We got our power back at 8:45pm on Friday, May 6th, and then got our internet and cable back on Sunday the 8th. 10-12 days without power or internet - a nice little break from normalcy, but I'm definitely glad we're (almost) back to normal!

Good things we have experienced through our 10 day power outage:
  • We are safe, we are ALIVE, and our home is standing... so many others were not as fortunate
  • I am SO THANKFUL for my friends and family who have made food for us and offered us a place to take a hot shower and do laundry. Otherwise we would be hungry and stinky.
  • It has been cool at night (every night except for one), so we're able to leave the windows open and not die of a heat stroke
  • It has been bright outside until 9 o'clock or so, so we don't need our flashlights too much
  • It has been bright in the mornings when we get up, so we don't need our flashlights too much
  • We have probably ordered pizza once in the year and a half we've been married, and now we've had it like 6 times in 10 days
The power being out this long has taught me some great things.

But it's still pretty annoying, if you ask me. :)

Baby Lawhorn {Week 31}

Want to know more about Baby Lawhorn?
Check out the Our Baby page!

How far along?: 31w1d - only 9 weeks to go! AHH!!
How big is baby?: the size of a squash, around 15-17in and 3-4 lbs.
Weight gain/loss?: +16 lbs
Stretch marks?: Nope.
Maternity clothes?: Every day, baby.
Sleep?: Having a harder time getting comfortable at night, but nothing to complain about!
Food cravings?: Mmmm... Panera IC Mochas (or McDonald's Frappe Mochas) and Life Savers - not together.
Gender?: Sweet baby BOY!
Movement?: At church on Sunday, I felt him have the hiccups for the first time! He started about the time the sermon began and didn't stop for 10 minutes! So cool!!!
Belly button?: Weirder every day. If I didn't already wear a tank top under everything, I totally would start since my belly button is QUITE visible now...
What do you miss?: This week I miss our power... nothing to do with baby, but I feel like I'm on "pause" waiting for our power to come back on before I finish up the nursery!
What are you looking forward to this week?: I am SOOOOOOO excited about our first Baby Shower this Saturday!! It marks the beginning of "Baby Overload Week" here at the Lawhorn house: baby shower with friends this Saturday, childbirth classes next Tuesday and Thursday night, baby shower at work on Thursday, doctor's appointment Friday, and baby shower at my parents church next Saturday!! What a fabulously busy week! I can't wait to spend time with family and friends and celebrate the coming of our little one!

Sanity and Smiles: May

May is going to be the most fun month! We have about a ba-zillion baby related activities, and I can't wait!
(It's crazy to think that this time last year we were gearing up to start
our kitchen remodel, and now we're finishing up a nursery!)

Things That Make Me Sane:
*clean clean clean!! (hopefully we will have power back soon... not that I can't clean in the dark...)
*learn as much as possible from Childbirth Classes
*finish the nursery (buy bookshelf, pick up glider, make "curtain project", accessorize!)

Things That Make Me Smile:
*enjoy THREE baby showers this month!
(*write thank yous for THREE baby showers this month!)
*read 3 books

P.S. This is my 600th post on the Ooey Gooey Daily News! Hard to believe! :)

Sanity and Smiles: April Recap

April wasn't TOO shabby! Let's see how I did...
Things That Make Me Sane:
*get rid of as much clutter as possible - COMPLETE! At the beginning of the month, I was the de-clutter queen. I got rid of a good amount of stuff to make room for all the new stuff I know we'll be getting with the little bambino
*clean... everything. - This was a really good goal. So good, in fact, that I may have to actually DO IT in May! (we've been a little out of sorts with no power, but we'll be ready to scrub the house from top to bottom soon!)
*make our bed EVERY day in April :) - COMPLETE! I only missed one day!! It has been so nice to walk into the bedroom to a neatly made bed each day. Even if the rest of the house is in complete disarray...

Things That Make Me Smile:
*eat dinner of the patio at least once a week - COMPLETE! You know, we didn't really do this intentionally, but we did eat out there probably 3-4 times, which would theoretically count as "once a week"
*go for a walk with Jason at least once a week - whoops
*have friends over for dinner (at least) twice - whoops
*read 3 books - COMPLETE! I finished up the first Baxter series with Rejoice and Reunion, read Black Heels to Tractor Wheels, and read the 1st half of Organized Simplicity (I plan to go through the 2nd half as we clean our house from top to bottom)

Nursery - New Curtains

Last weekend mom and I decided it was time to update the curtain situation in the baby's room.

Let's take a moment to peek back in time at the lovely horse curtains that gave this room the nickname "the horse room".

Juuuuust lovely.

Then when we updated our living room curtains, I put the sheers from there into this room. Not bad, but nothing special.

We took those down and knew that we needed to put up a new curtain rod, since the current curtains were on a pully system which would have either meant custom order or custom made curtains, which I'm too cheap to do. :)

So after mom's perseverance, determination, and amazing use of power tools, we had the new curtains up!

White sheers on a smaller cafe rod and chocolate brown "blackout curtains" on top! When the blackouts are drawn, it is SOOOO dark in there - it's awesome! It will be perfect for naptime. :)

I am so happy with how they turned out. I have one more little "adornment" for the window treatments, but you'll have to wait for the big reveal to see that! (Plus, I haven't made it yet!)

Any new projects around your house?

After the Storms

We had some really severe storms come through our area yesterday... luckily we did not have any significant damage, but it definitely shook us up! I was at work when our house was hit initially, thank goodness, because my neighbor said that it was the most scared she's ever been - the noise from the storm and trees snapping all around.

I wanted to show you the difference between what our house looked like when we bought it and now after the storms.

Notice all the full, tall, beautiful trees behind our house that rise up way above our roof?

Now, notice how they're all gone?
We're still not sure where all the tops of these trees ended up. A lot of them were flung backwards into our woods and luckily all the trees that actually fell, fell towards the woods and not on to our house. The only tree that was close, ripped our electrical lines off the back of our house, so even when the rest of our neighborhood gets their power back, it will probably be a while before we do.

We were very lucky that the Lord spared our home in the storms yesterday. There were so many in close proximity that were not so fortunate. Please keep the cities of Chattanooga and Ringgold, and the state of Alabama in your prayers.
