Baby Lawhorn {telling the 'rents}

This is my journal entry from the week after we told our parents.
We told them Halloween weekend! That feels like so long ago! :)

(W) 11/3/10 8:00am
Last weekend we told our parents! We went to my parents house before lunch and luckily Nick was about to leave with Lee to go to the Oglesby's for the haunted house (we weren't ready to tell him yet). We hung out for a little bit and then Jason told Mom and Dad that we had late Mother's Day & Father's Day gifts for them. After a perplexed look, they closed their eyes, and I put "Mimi" and "Papa" nametags on them! They opened their eyes and were both SHOCKED!! Mom was speechless for a second, but it didn't last long! :) We stayed for a little while longer and talked and got excited. They are both so excited to be grandparents!! Then we left because I was meeting Emily and Samantha for lunch, but I had to keep my mouth shut! (which was really hard for me!)

one set of very proud Grandparents!

Later that evening we went up to the Millers and Jessica had just left for a Halloween party. It was Ben's birthday and we said we had a gift for both of them! We put their "Grandma" and "Grandpa" nametags on (future grandparent names to be determined), and waited for their reactions. Patricia's face lit up and she couldn't stop hugging us! Ben said it was a great birthday present!

Workin' in the Yard

Two weekends ago, Jason, his mom & dad did some awesome yardwork at our house. It was time to get rid of the ugly dying trees.

Here is the front yard, prior to their magic:

Please note the hideous, overgrown bush below the living room windows. See the basement window? Nope, because it's HIDING!

My hubby workin'  hard.

Ben putting the dead tree out of its misery.

Aaaaaaand... after!
See? There's a window down there! :)

One last before & after.
BEFORE:

AFTER:

Our yard seriously looks HUGE (and will be much easier for Jason to mow). I can't get over the difference, every time I drive up.

Step 1 of our yard "remodel" is complete!

Goodbye Wagon Wheels: P2

Remember back in September when we said GOODBYE to one of our wagon wheel lights in the kitchen?
original before (January 2009) good times

after (September 2010)

We LOVE the extra lighting it gives (since there was just a wagon wheel in the kitchen part and an unusable fan in front of the fridge). It's been FABULOUS!

We planned to put the chandelier up on the dining room side of the kitchen right after we did these, but when we opened up the box, we realized that one of the shades was broken. Boooooo.

So then we had to call the lighting place and have them order another shade. It took me several weeks after we realized the first one was broken to even make the call. (I kinda kept forgetting.)

Then we got the shade, brought it home unopened and set it in the corner. Insert 2-3 month timespan. Two or three weekends ago, Jason got back up in the attic and decided to get the chandelier up once and for all! So he gets it all done and we start to get out the shades to put them on, and finally open up the box for the replacement only to find that it was the wrong shape. Double booooooo.

So last weekend I took a CORRECT shade and the WRONG shade back to the lighting store and they found a replacement in the back room (well actually they didn't so I left and then 20 minutes later they called me back and said they did), sooooooo without further adieu:

original before (January 2009)

after (January 2011)

We love it!! Finally we can mark this off of our to-do list!!

Anything you've been putting off lately?

Sanity and Smiles: February

This month I am going to focus a TON of energy on learning my camera and hopefully purchasing and learning about a new camcorder. I don't think either falls under the "things that make me sane" category, so...

Things that make me SANE:
*nothing - therefore I will spend the entire month of February as an INSANE person

Things that make me SMILE:
*FIND OUT if Baby Lawhorn is a BOY OR GIRL!!!!
*... & throw a party to let family know!
*ban Auto on my camera, not ready for Manual, but baby steps
*take a video at our get together on Saturday, use iMovie to make it cool, and share on the blog no later than 7 days after!
*dinner with 2 friends/couples
*read As Sure as the Dawn and 48 Days

Sanity and Smiles: January Recap

First month of my new Sanity and Smiles goals! I think they were much more doable for me! I'm really happy with what was accomplished this month, but the purpose was to help me really focus more on the relationships than the goals. Check!

Things that make me SANE:
*take down Christmas - done {thank goodness, because I don't think I could handle it if there was still Christmas stuff in our house right now!}
*save up coupons all month to be able to use them on a big shopping trip - done {pretty fun!}
*find a bench for our entry (and hang mirror above it) - umm... not so much. {You win some, you lose some. This one, I lost.} :)

Things that make me SMILE:
*lunch with 2 friends - done {once with Alex and once with both Walkers} :)
*dinner with 2 friends/couples - done {Geyers, Rochas, we also had dinner with the Walkers and Vanessa & Sam during January!}
*celebrate Sam's b'day! - done!
*read Comfort and Joy and A Voice in the Wind - done, and I read An Echo in the Darkness too! {read my review here}
